The White Mountain School of Art emphasized the sublime and majestic glory of nature. Focusing on the new frontier opening up in this early period of American expansion. Our goal is to exhibit this unique art, here in the Mount Washington Valley, where many important pieces were painted. We hope to expose visitors to this unique branch of the Hudson River School that existed between 1834-1926.
The Museum exhibits approximately ninety fine oil paintings from the collections of local private collectors. It spans both the first and second generations of the school. Styles include classic landscapes espousing the magnificence of nature in clear artistic detail, then a move toward impressionist, luminist and tonalist. Artists include Champney, Kensett, Gerry, Hill, Griggs, Craig, Shapleigh, Hart, Wyant, Herzog and many more.
Our art gallery offers oil paintings celebrating the White Mountains, at varying levels of expertise and price, for sale. If you are interested in selling a painting, the museum accepts appropriate paintings at a very competitive consignment rate. The gallery is part of our Not-For-Profit business status. All profits are used to expand the mission of the museum.
